When we started two years ago in Apizaco, there were no musicians in the church. A year ago Edgar started playing the guitar every once in a while, but the majority of our music came from mp3’s.  This Spring Break we had two guys come down from The Rock Church of Fenton in Michigan.

They spoke minimal Spanish but worked with a group of kids to form a worship band. They created personal practice logs and showed them how to organize their group practices. They worked with each kid on their instruments teaching them chords and rhythm patterns and other musical mumbo jumbo. The greatest impact they had on this group, though, came not from imparting some sort of information, but from just taking them seriously as band. After the boys left, these kids saw themselves like Jon and Jacob saw them – as worship team. That kind of impact is not flashy or feel good, but it will endure in the church for years to come.
